The following year – in 1978, construction was completed for the annual racing season. Consequently, the track’s name was changed from the Kent and Sussex Raceway to Harrington Raceway in 1967. The plans involved improvements of the grandstand and a new enclosed clubhouse to be added. Instead, a million-dollar project was undertaken, and public stocks were issued to fund the project. ![]() However, these plans were soon cancelled because of the high cost. In 1964, modernization plans began as the raceway facility was not well built for the colder autumn days when the annual meet was held. Later, in 1945, when parimutuel wagering on harness racing got legalized, the Kent and Sussex Association organized an annual racing meet.
